We are mayfield and camilo, two wild, magical and adventurous beings. We are artists, dancers, educators and activists who love the ocean, and who are based in Rockaway Beach or Lenapehoking, New York.
mayfield, is from turtle island and was born in Connecticut or Quinnehtukqut—the historic homeland of the Poquonocks, Wangunks and Tunxis—near the Atlantic Ocean. Camilo is from Tuluá, a small town in Colombia near the Pacific Ocean.
We met in 2022 dancing with a spiritual and creative purpose. Our journey together with the ocean began with a deep connection with a sperm whale that we found stranded in Rockaway Beach, NY.
From the moment we began to collaborate with Whale Fall, a project led by mayfield, Oceanicos Collective emerged as a journey to share our love for the sea, dance, community action and climate justice.
Dance is life and the ocean is life.
Our dance is a form of prayer.
In 2023, we had the privilege of swimming with humpback whales on Colombia’s Pacific Coast. We felt the sound frequencies of their songs enter our bodies, expanding our connection and deep respect for life and the ocean. We are full of energy and love to share, create, heal and expand sensitivity, consciousness and respect for our oceans and the marine life who live there.
On July 25th, 2024, after performing on the magical and historic Tall Ship Wavertree as part of LMCC’s 2024 River to River Festival in NYC, we committed ourselves to spiritual union with the ocean and our purpose together.

The ocean is our source of inspiration, abundance and wisdom.
A space of presence and connection.
The beaches and the songs of the waves decompose stress and calm the nervous system.
The ocean raises the energetic frequency of this planet and brings well-being to the beings who inhabit it.
We are the ocean
Our internal waters are moved by the moon itself
We are nature
We are unity.
